Papez circuit: What is it?

Papez circuit

Papez circuit is a route in which the limbic system communicates between

the hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, and cortex.

Limbic system is not a true lobe of the brain but rather a functional

collection of structures that regulate higher activities such as memory and

emotion. It commonly includes parahippocampal gyrus, hippocampus,

congulate gyrus, and uncus.

Bilateral lesions of any structures of Papez circuit have been reported to

cause amnesia.
